New report on water and conflict
In August, Saferworld and partners launched their latest report: ‘Water and conflict: making water delivery conflict-sensitive in Uganda’.
The report documents how two water projects in Uganda were made more conflict-sensitive, and as a result, brought increased benefits to communities.
It highlights the experience and lessons learned from promoting conflict-sensitive development using two case studies: the first, a gravity flow scheme in Kasese district, Western Uganda, and the second, a water borehole in Arua district in the West Nile region.
Aimed at helping water practitioners and actors working in other development sectors, the report seeks to broaden understanding of how conflict-sensitive approaches can be used by development actors.
The report will be available at this year’s international Water Week (www.worldwaterweek.org), where Saferworld will be presenting on some of the issues raised in the report.
The project work was undertaken by Saferworld and three civil society partners in Uganda: the Center for Conflict Resolution (CECORE); the Rwenzori Development and Research Centre (REDROC) and the Youth Development Organisation (YODEO).
